Annie was rescued by Trooper’s Chicken Rescue founders, Brian and Patricia Burns, after being used as a “bait hen” for hen fighting. Yes, hen fighting is a real form of animal cruelty. Annie was repeatedly pecked in the eyes, leaving her blind, and her nails were removed by the people who used her as bait.
Despite the cruelty she endured, Annie was given something she had never truly known before: a safe and loving home.
Brian and Patricia welcomed Annie into their family, where she lives alongside their other blind hen, Helen. Here, Annie is protected, cared for, and surrounded by people who see her for who she truly is—not as a victim of cruelty, but as a precious hen with her own personality and a life worth celebrating.
And Annie has no trouble letting everyone know one of her favorite things—she absolutely LOVES tomatoes!
Today, Annie continues to enjoy the safety and companionship she deserves. Her journey is a powerful reminder that animals who have experienced cruelty can still find happiness, trust, and love when given the opportunity.
Annie may not be able to see the world around her, but she knows what it feels like to be safe, loved, and home.
